It is Not Good for Man to Be Alone – I Will Make Him a Lovebot?

At the heart of what may be the most intimate ethical dilemma of our time lies the Lovebot – a Sexdoll driven by sophisticated artificial intelligence that gives it the ability to engage in social relationships. This socio-intelligent capability raises critical ethical and existential questions about the nature and purpose of human relationships and, more fundamentally, about the very essence of what it means to be human. Applying a Jewish moral framework to the question of Lovebots, I will demonstrate that relationships with automatons undermine the human condition both ethically and existentially.

Moral Luck

Have you ever wondered if what you did – good or bad – was really pure “luck”? Intuitively, we tend to believe that people are undeserving of praise or blame for acts over which they had no control. The problem is that practically everything we do is a result of factors for which we have no control. So are we responsible? When and why are we deserving of praise or blame?
